π³ Replacement Trees Planted at Virgin Bank
πΈ New Cherry Trees Planted at Virgin Bank
Many local people will remember the much-loved flowering cherry tree outside the Virgin Money bank in Inverurie. For decades it was a familiar feature of the town centre, marking the seasons with its beautiful blossom and creating lasting memories for generations of residents.
Sadly, the tree had to be removed in 2022 after specialist inspections found that the trunk was splitting, making it unsafe and posing a risk to people passing by. While its loss was keenly felt by the community, Evolving Inverurie was determined to see new trees established in its place.
Following discussions with Virgin Money and agreement to undertake replacement planting, Evolving Inverurie secured funding from the Garioch Area Committee to make the project happen. Rather than replacing the original tree with a single specimen, it was agreed that three new gean (wild cherry) trees would be planted, helping to provide an even greater display of blossom and long-term environmental benefits for the town centre.
Evolving Inverurie Trustees Rod and Martin volunteered their time to plant the new trees, helping to restore a much-loved feature of the area and ensuring a lasting legacy for future generations.
This project is a great example of Evolving Inverurie's role in the community. By identifying an opportunity, liaising with the bank, securing funding and coordinating delivery, Evolving Inverurie acted as the catalyst that turned an idea into reality. The successful outcome shows what can be achieved when local organisations and volunteers work together for the benefit of Inverurie.
While the original tree can never be replaced, these new gean trees will, in time, become established and create their own place in the hearts of local people. We look forward to watching them grow and seeing their spring blossom brighten the town centre for many years to come.
πΈ A huge thank you to everyone involved, and to the Garioch Area Committee for funding the project
