Town Hall Benches Restored Through Community Partnership
Visitors to Inverurie Town Hall can once again enjoy both of the benches outside the building thanks to a successful partnership between Evolving Inverurie, Inverurie Men's Shed and the Garioch Area Committee.
The project began on 22 March 2026, when the first of the two benches was removed and transported to the Men's Shed for refurbishment. Following extensive restoration work by the Shed volunteers, the bench was returned and reinstalled on 27 April, with the second bench then heading to the workshop for the same treatment. The second and final bench returned to its place outside the Town Hall on 21 June 2026, bringing the project to a successful conclusion.
The refurbishment was funded through support from the Garioch Area Committee, while Evolving Inverurie coordinated the project from start to finish. Evolving Inverurie identified the need for the work, approached Inverurie Men's Shed to discuss the restoration, agreed a quotation for the refurbishment, secured the necessary funding and organised the transportation and installation of both benches.
The practical work was carried out by the skilled volunteers at Inverurie Men's Shed, who carefully refurbished the benches, helping to preserve an important feature of the town centre while extending their lifespan for years to come. Evolving Inverurie volunteers also undertook the transport and reinstallation of the benches throughout the project.
This is an excellent example of local organisations working together to deliver tangible improvements for the community. By combining the skills, resources and enthusiasm of different groups, the project has enhanced a well-used public space while demonstrating the strength of partnership working in Inverurie.
While the success of the project belongs to all those involved, it also highlights the important role that Evolving Inverurie plays as a catalyst for community improvement projects. By bringing partners together, identifying opportunities and securing funding, Evolving Inverurie helped turn what was simply an idea into a completed project that residents and visitors can enjoy every day.
The restored benches now once again provide a welcoming place to sit outside Inverurie Town Hall - a small but visible reminder of what can be achieved when local organisations work together for the benefit of the town.
